New mother Lily Allen tried so hard to have a baby, suffering 15 miscarriages in just six years. When her daughter Fleur-Rose was born, she was ecstatic.

Allen’s pregnancy was difficult. Fleur-Rose was born two and a half months premature, and doctors feared she would be born with disabilities due to the fluid around her neck in the womb.

Fleur-Rose was healthy until she was 15 months old and woke crying with a mild fever. Allen noted to the Daily Mail, “At 1 p.m. on the day we lost her, she sat on her daddy Matt’s knee, grinning away.” Within hours, Fleur-Rose was gone.

Over the course of a day, hospital staff tried various treatments, but by the time Fleur-Rose’s condition was determined to be meningitis, it was too late. She suffered a seizure and four cardiac arrests before she passed away.

Allen and her family are committed to raising awareness of the symptoms of meningitis. She explained why this is important, saying, “She was too young to articulate how she felt. She couldn’t say, ‘Mummy, my eyes hurt,’ or ‘Mummy, I have a bad tummy.'”

Since her daughter’s death, Allen has raised more than £12,000 for Meningitis Now, a research and awareness organization. “I don’t want other children to die like she did. I don’t want other parents to suffer like we did,” she said.
