Allianz study looks at concerns of solo travelers

Solo travelers’ biggest concern is security and safety, according to a new survey from Allianz Global Assistance.

The survey, administered online in October and garnering 1,501 responses, found that just shy of 70% of respondents have traveled alone.

Among all respondents, safety and security of accommodations was the biggest concern (26.6%) when traveling alone.


Michelin Guide Owner Buys Tablet Hotels to Build a Travel Business


Michelin, the France-based tire company that publishes Michelin guides for restaurants and tours, quietly acquired the booking site Tablet Hotels in October.

The goal of the deal, which was announced Monday, is to have the Tablet Hotels team lead the digital transformation of the print-oriented Michelin Red Guides for restaurants and Green Guides for tourism, and to build a travel larger travel vertical, Tablet Hotels co-founder and CEO Laurent Vernhes told Skift.


Anchorage region takes stock after earthquake

Anchorage-area residents continued assessing the damage caused by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake that occurred at 8:29 a.m. on Friday. Centered between Palmer and Anchorage, north of Alaska’s largest and most populous city, the quake and subsequent aftershocks damaged roads and buildings throughout the region.


United Strikes Deal with Copa, Avianca


United Airlines announced a new joint business agreement with Compania Panamena de Aviacion S.A. (Copa), Aerovías del Continente Americano S.A. (Avianca) and many of their affiliates.

Pending government approval, United’s new partnerships are expected to provide substantial benefits for customers, communities and the marketplace for air travel between the United States and 19 countries in Central and South America.
